Below is our current selection of children's classes for November/December. The minimum amount of participants per class is three and the maximum is ten. All supplies are included in the class fees. Felted Soap (k-6)
Wednesday, November 28th; 1:30-3:00p.m.
Instructor: Katie Brousseau; Fee: $15.00/person (includes all materials)
Description: We will make felted soap using wool roving as a covering. Wet felting involves getting wet and creating friction with the wool, so please dress accordingly! Felted soap makes a wonderful (and fun!) holiday gift.
Pillow Scenes (k-3rd grade)
Wednesday, December 5th; 1:30-3:00p.m.
Instructor: Britton Donharl Fee: $15.00/person (includes all materials)
Description: We will create our own pillows (approx. 10”x10”) by coloring with fabric markers onto pre-cut/sewn fabric, stuffing the pillows, and enhancing the drawings with fabric paints. (The instructor will sew the stuffing opening closed.)
Pillow Stuffies (3rd-6th grade)
Wednesday, December 12th; 1:30-3:00p.m.
Instructor: Britton Donharl Fee: $15.00/person (includes all materials)
Description: We will create our own pillow stuffies by coloring with fabric markers onto fabric, cutting around the drawings, cutting out a backing, sewing it together, and stuffing it. This class will encourage the students to use both scissors and a sewing machine (provided), under direct supervision.
Embroidered Felt Ornaments (3rd-6th grade)
Wednesday, December 19th; 1:30-3:00p.m.
Instructor: Katie Brousseau Fee: $15.00/person (includes materials)
Description: We will be making whimsical ornaments from 100% wool felt, cotton embroidery floss, and other fun embellishments. Participants will learn basic embroidery skills during this class, and multiple ornament ideas will be provided.

We are excited to announce some *BIG* changes coming to Warm Hearts Yarn!
First of all, I (Katie) will be joined in partnership with Heidi, a handwork enthusiast and talented designer. Our individual strengths complement each other nicely and will better enable both of us to better serve our customers and community. Laura of Moondance Designs will also be joining us in our larger space (see below!) as a talented jewelry and gift designer, as well as bringing in fun vintage buttons and findings. She will also have a section of boutique-quality consignment clothing. We are excited about this diversification in the shop! Also, our many talented and creative vendors and consignors will continue to be with us, offering our shop a unique selection of handmade and vintage items.
Secondly, WE ARE MOVING! Our Grand Opening will be this coming Friday, November 16th, at our NEW LOCATION:
35 Rover Blvd, Suite D (right next to the Children's Clinic, where the Visitor Center previously was)
In order to prepare for our new location, we will be CLOSED Monday, November 12th through Thursday, November 15th. We will reopen at our new location on Friday, November 16th with a ribbon cutting and open house at 10am. Please join us!!!

*New* Fall Yarn (and free patterns!)
The Fall season is in full swing, and I just wanted to take a moment to share some of my favorite yarns of the season. Of course we have many more, but these three are *NEW* to the yarn market this season and are absolutely gorgeous. The free pattern support is also a great plus!
First up is Classic Shades Lite Sequins. This lighter-weight version of the very popular Classic Shades (we carry Classic Shades, Classic Shades Solids, and Classic Shades Big Time)is flecked with sequins of coordinating colors. With 264 yards/skein, just a couple skeins will go a long way. The free pattern below calls for only two skeins!

Next is Casablanca by Cascade Yarns. This has got to be my favorite yarn of the season. It is a wool/silk/mohair blend with a long striping pattern. If you like Noro's Silk Garden, I highly recommend this yarn! It is soft, beautiful, and has a great price point of $17.00 for 220 yards (Noro Silk Garden commonly retails for $11/110 yards). Cascade Yarns also has wonderful pattern support! Heidi at Warm Hearts Yarn just finished a sample, along with a free pattern, of a one-skein scarf out of Casablanca. Come on in and check it out!

Finally is a beautiful tweed yarn by Elsebeth Lavold, Tweedy Wool. Perhaps it is my Scottish heritage, but I naturally gravitate towards tweeds. There is just something earthy, yet sophisticated about it. Below if a free pattern, courtesy of Knitting Fever and Elsebeth Lavold.

Layering Season
I cannot imagine anywhere I would rather be than in Northern New Mexico during Autumn (of course, I am a bit biased). The weather is beautiful, the leaves are turning, thoughts are towards colder weather and winter holidays without much stress involved (yet), and green chile is roasting. In addition, we have the Taos Wool Festival and Balloon Fiesta.
It's also the perfect time of year for layering on scarves, shawls, hats, vests, and sweaters. The mornings and evenings are cool, but the afternoons are still quite warm.
While perusing ravelry to find a vest/short-sleeve cardigan to use for some beautiful hand-dyed yarn in my stash, I re-aquainted myself with the Shalom Cardigan (for those not on ravelry, the free pattern may be found in the right sidebar at Involving the Senses). This pattern has been around for several years and has well over 5000 documented ravelry projects. I decided to go for it even though I would have to made several modifications: the pattern calls for a bulky weight and I had worsted, I wanted to add buttons, and I also had to account for a larger size.
In the end, I love how this short-sleeved cardigan turned out. It is the perfect layering piece! The yarn, a wool/silk blend locally hand-dyed by Wooly Wonka Fibers (and carried at Warm Hearts Yarn, along with two other hand-dyed lines by local fiber artists Hairball Yarn and Serenity Stitches), also fits the season perfectly in color-way "Barn Door." I am also enjoying the buttons--vintage mother-of-pearl from Moondance Designs (carrying a great variety of vintage and Czech glass buttons at Warm Hearts Yarn). I am thinking of hosting a knit-along based on this pattern in January. Any takers?
Sweater-knitter extraordinaire, Doris P., has been teaching a class based on the Central Park Hoodie pattern. This pattern contains many techniques that are important for any knitter to learn--cabling, blocking, seaming, as well as ensuring a perfect fit. Our sample is knit up in Cascade's Pacific, and we have plenty of worsted-weight yarn to choose from that would be just perfect for this project.
We are excited about the fall season, the cooler weather, and the extra stitching that usually takes place this time of year. As always, please let us know how we can best serve you and the community.

Fall Sale
Last week I received about 300 pounds worth of new yarn from several different companies (I owe our UPS guy--perhaps some fingerless mitts?). It's been like Christmas for me opening all of the boxes, but I did overestimate the amount of space I have to display it all in.
So, for this week, September 24th through September 29th, all yarn is 10% off! This is a great time to check out what's new this season, get a head start on holiday projects, and/or pick up something special for yourself. Please bring a knitted sweatshirt/jacket/cardigan that you like the fit of in order to take measurements during the first class.

Do you find yourself wishing you could make your own design?
Session 1 – Tuesday, Sep. 18, 6:00 – 8:00 – we will go over some of the things you need to consider when designing your sweater – pattern, yarn…

Fee: $20 Instructor-Britton
Description: Come join the crochet fun while making good use of old bed sheets! We will rip bed sheets into one long strip and begin to crochet a large basket from the sheets. Beginners welcome, although some basic crochet skills are handy. A basic pattern for the basket will be provided, and a how-to for ripping sheets. Some old sheets will be provided to get started, but you will need to supplement with your own in order to finish the basket. Bring your own sheets if you have them, and a huge crochet hook. A finished basket is great for storage, as a laundry basket, a cat bed, or whatever you may need a large soft basket for!
