Don't Be A Square, Learn to Knit, Afghan Knit-Along, Block Nine, Best Buds - Tuesday

This time, Amy introduces knitting in the round!  Today’s counterpane block “Best Buds” goes from the center out, using the lace techniques and M1 increases we’ve already learned from previous blocks.

Amy shares this helpful video on starting your square on DPNs (double-pointed needles) and increasing as you work out.  It’s not something we’ve done before in this afghan, but it’s a very useful trick!

If you know how to knit and purl but are ready for the next step this KAL (Knit-Along) is for you. We will be joining Universal Yarn and Amy Gunderson for this KAL and you will have the added benefit of hands on help from Heidi. If you missed the earlier blocks - no worries, we will help you catch up.

Tuesday, 5 Aug, 5:30 - 7
Instructor - Heidi Narum
Fee - Free

Supplies-
At least 4 colors of Uptown worsted or other worsted weight yarn. Color combination ideas. 2 balls of each color. Each block uses about 20 oz.

Tapestry needle
Copy of the pattern available here.

Fixation Sock Yarn Knitalong - Saturday

We will be knitting ankle socks with my favorite sock yarn, Fixation, following either the plain ankle sock or
the lacy sock pattern from Creative Knitting Magazine issue Summer 2013.
This sock yarn is thicker than most sock yarns and uses size 3 needles. You can use double points, magic loop, or
2 circulars to knit these socks.
These socks knit up more quickly and the stretchiness of the yarn makes the finished sock
fit better. It takes one to two balls of yarn depending on your size. It takes two balls for my socks.
We will meet at Warm Hearts Yarn on July 26 and Aug. 2 from 10-12.
It is going to be fun! See you there!

KETTLE TWEED: This yarn is kettle-dyed by hand so each lot is unique. Soft to the touch with a subtle sheen, Kettle Tweed is perfect for all your fine gauge or lace projects.
Fiber Content: 60% merino wool/20% baby llama/10% bamboo/10% donegal
Put-Up: 100-gr hanks
Yardage: 436 yards
Texture: smooth
Sts per 4": 28 sts
Needles: US size 3 (3.25mm)

Don't Be  A Square, Learn to Knit, Afghan Knit-Along, Block Seven- Echolate

If you know how to knit and purl but are ready for the next step this KAL (Knit-Along) is for you. We will be joining Universal Yarn and Amy Gunderson for this KAL and you will have the added benefit of hands on help from Heidi. If you missed the previous blocks - no worries, we will help you catch up. This block would also make a great dishcloth, so grab some Cotton Supreme and join us.

Cables!  I love ‘em.  They can give flow and movement to a piece  that is hard to achieve any other way.  But they’re also one of those things that some knitters never try, just because they seem intimidating.  Nothing could be further from the truth!

For Block Seven “Echolate” we’ve got a video to walk you through the process of knitting both right and left-leaning cables using a cable needle.  If you don’t have a cable needle, grab a spare double-point and use that instead!
