You certainly don't need to risk your life and limb to get there. If you can't make it try for Thursday's help session (4:30 - 6:30).
Tonight will be covering the following...
While completing the gauge swatch we will read the entire pattern and review items that might be confusing or noteworthy. We will discuss how to adjust the needle size for your gauge and how to approach knitting the back. We will cast on and start the back (as time permits).
Assignment - try to have all the side decreases for the back done by 4 Feb.
