Upcoming Classes

Equinox Sweater: this is a two-session class: January 12th and 26th, 10am-12pm
Fee: $30 includes pattern Instructor: Doris Prokop Limit: 8 participants

The Equinox Sweater is a favorite pattern from Interweave Knits' Knitscene. The entire sweater is knit from the top-down, there is no purling and no seaming. It is the perfect beginner's sweater! Of course, all levels of knitters are welcome, but this is a great project for those ready to move on from scarves and hats. :)

As per instructions from Doris, the best yarn to purchase is that of 50% or higher of animal fiber (wool, alpaca, etc.). This helps with blocking and counteracting the rolling of hems. We at Warm Hearts Yarn are happy to help you find a great yarn for this sweater! All yarn purchased specifically for this class will receive a 10% discount.

Test Knit the Valerie Sweater Class will be 3 hours over 3 months - Jan 15th , Feb 12th, and March 12th : 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. – Free class and pattern –
Instructor: Heidi Narum; please email Heidi to register at NarumHC@yahoo.com
Limit: 8 participants

An opportunity to test knit the Valerie Sweater (http://narumknits.blogspot.com/2012/11/valerie-is-done.html). Participants will receive a free copy of the pattern and unlimited help from the designer, while giving feedback about the pattern. Classes are optional and Heidi can meet with participants during store hours to help.

Participants will need to bring their own yarn and have supplies consistent with making a sweater. . All yarn purchased specifically for this class will receive a 10% discount.

Felted Rocks: Wednesday, January 16th; 1:30-3:00p.m.
Fee: $12/participant Instructor: Britton Donharl

True Beginner’s Hat Class: this is a two-session class: Thursday, January 17th and 31st, 7-8:30p.m.
Fee: $20 includes pattern; Instructor: Stephanie Hagelburg

We will make a rolled edge hat in the round with 1 skein of Cascade 220
using a 16" #8 circular needle and a set of #8 double pointed needles.
Bring a second skein and you'll learn how to make neat stripes (good way
to make "team" hats). Yarn purchased for this class will receive a 10% discount.

Design Your Own Sweater: class will be 3 hours over 3 months – Dates: Jan 22nd, Feb 19th, Mar. 19th ; 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Fee: $30/participant Instructor: Heidi Narum Limit: 8

Learn how to design a knitted sweater of your choice, using the yarn of your choice. We will be using either of Ann Budd’s books, The Knitter’s Handy Book of Sweater Patterns or The Knitter’s Handy Book of Top-Down Sweaters, along with class handouts to create one-of-a-kind sweaters. While the class meets three times, Heidi will be available during store hours to help with any questions or problems that arise.

Participants will need to have either of the books (marked at 20% off retail value at the shop), plus enough yarn to make a sweater, needles and other supplies consistent with making a sweater. All yarn purchased specifically for this class will receive a 10% discount.

Children’s Knitting: Wednesdays Jan. 23rd, 30th and Feb. 6th; 1:30-3:00p.m.
Fee: $25 includes all supplies (Please note: This is a three-week class; the $25 fee covers all supplies and three weeks of instruction) Instructor: Katie Brousseau

During this class participants will learn basic knitting skills (cast on, knit stitch, bind off and seaming) while making a knitted ball/beanbag. While all elementary-aged children are welcome, it has been my experience that the fine motor coordination involved may be difficult and frustrating for children under the age of eight. Exceptions can always be made, and we strive for classes to be enjoyable experiences for all children. Limit: 8 participants

Below you will find a list of our current adult classes. Classes may also be found on our store calendar on the website's Calendar Page. Thank you for your interest, and please feel free to email Katie at classes@warmheartsyarn.com with any questions.

Knit at Knite Knitting Retreat

We are having a knitting retreat this year! It will be at the Hotel of Santa Fe on Feb.1st and 2nd.
You can reserve your room before Jan.25th to get the special room rates. The rooms will cost $109. plus tax
up to 10 people, if we get 10 or more our rooms will go down to $99. plus tax. Just mention this is for the
knitting retreat to get these rates. We will get 15% off on spa services if anyone wants to do that.
We are planning to keep this a low key retreat, to rest and relax and knit. I will plan a knit-a-long if anyone
wants to do that too. There won't be any classes. Lots of eating out, shopping at yarn stores, a high tea
and of course knitting. The hotel has a shuttle to take us around if we don't want to bother with driving and
parking. They have a hot tub for soaking in if we have knitted too strenuously.
I think it will be fun. It is in Santa Fe so even if you can't stay you can come down for the day and
participate. Let me know if you are going so we can get a count for meals and things.

Christmas Balaclavas

I am one lucky mama--fortunately, my boys like wearing hats! When they saw the pattern for this balaclava (ravelry link to the free pattern), their thoughts immediately went to “ninja hats.” :) I was able to finish Ben’s before Christmas, but Matt’s came a few days after. We’ve had several recent snow showers and cold weather, so they have already received much use!

I followed the pattern exactly for Ben’s balaclava, using worsted-weight yarn and a size 6 needle. For Matt’s, however, I wanted a larger size, so I used bulky weight yarn and a size 8 needle. It turned out a bit big, but that’s ok; he’ll be able to grow into it!

I used Cascade’s Pacific yarn for both projects, Ben's in the worsted-weight and Matt's in the chunky. I highly recommend this yarn--it is warm, soft, machine-washable, and not itchy at all! Of course we carry both, as well as the Pacific Multi, at the shop.

We hope that all are staying warm and enjoying the winter season.

Happy New Year!
