Color Theory for Crafters

Crafting = Color  It’s really that simple.  No matter the craft, color is what the eye first sees and the brain immediately evokes an emotion. And yet color is the one thing that can scare so many crafters.  This class will demonstrate the basics of color theory which will allow the crafter to accurately describe colors and their relationships in the color wheel.  Once mastered, the class will then discover the more intricate ways that color plays in different media and how the relationships learned in earlier classes will accurately guide your artistic vision.

Learn the science behind choosing color for projects during this hands-on theory class. This class is appropriate for all levels of crafters who work with various media: fiber arts, quilting, mixed media, etc,

Date: Saturday, 20, 27 Sept., & 4 Oct. from 12:30 - 2.
Instructor: Avivah Smith-Nelson

Fee: $30 with optional $19.96 book fee

Shetland Shawl KAL

Join Avivah Smith-Nelson for this free Shetland shawl KAL (knit-along).

Starts 12 Sept and repeats weekly through Nov 14 from 1 - 2:30

Nordica Sweater KAL (knit-along)
Join us for a knit-a-long on a stranded colorwork sweater. It is the
Nordica pattern from Creative Knitting Autumn 2013.
It is knit in the round on size 7or 8 needles so it goes pretty
quickly! You will be able to wear it this winter. There is never more than
two colors to work per row. It is a great project to learn to do a
stranded yarn yoke. The yarn requirements are in the pattern and it
is sized up to a 3X. I used Casablanca yarn for one of the colors. You
will need one long circular needle, (if using a set, one long cable,40"
or so).
This sweater involves almost no finishing (sewing)! It will be fun!

Instructor: Doris Prokop
Dates/Times:
Saturday, Sept 13th, 2-5pm; Saturday, Sept 27th 10am-noon

Don't Be A Square, Learn to Knit, Afghan Knit-Along, Block 11 "Every Which Way" - Tonight

If you know how to knit and purl but are ready for the next step this KAL (Knit-Along) is for you. We will be joining Universal Yarn and Amy Gunderson for this KAL and you will have the added benefit of hands on help from Heidi. If you missed the earlier blocks - no worries, we will help you catch up.

Nifty!  This month we’re exploring relief stitches, using twists that travel across the fabric, starting with Block Eleven, “Every Which Way.”

I’m particularly glad to see this technique come up - I still recall doing a hat pattern with all over right twists and left twists.  The right twists, I could figure out, but I never got the hang of left twists and had to use a cable needle every time my stitches travelled in that direction.  So tedious!

Amy shows us how to work these twists, which I think of as tiny one-stitch cables.
